Machinist (Fitter & Turner)

About the role

A packaging manufacturing client is recruiting a Machinist (also described as Fitter & Turner) to join its team in Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal. The role covers manufacturing, repairing and maintaining mechanical components and machinery so that production runs continuously.

Key responsibilities

• Machining and fabrication: operate lathes, milling machines and other equipment to make parts, and manufacture or repair machine parts, shafts, bushes and other mechanical components.
• Quality: ensure all machined parts meet the required tolerances and specifications.
• Maintenance and repairs: maintain and repair production machinery, assist with breakdowns and fault diagnosis, and replace or repair damaged parts.
• Production support: work with the maintenance and production teams to minimise downtime, help improve machine performance and efficiency, and keep machinery to operational and safety standards.
• Health and safety: follow company safety policies, keep the workplace clean and safe, and use tools, machinery and PPE correctly.
