Local Guard Coordinator

About the role

The U.S. Embassy in Pretoria is looking for a qualified Local Guard Coordinator to oversee the local guard contract, personnel, and resources. Reporting to the Regional Security Officer or Assistant Regional Security Officer, the coordinator will manage contract administration and support security planning for all U.S. Government facilities in the mission.

Key responsibilities

• Provide daily oversight of contract guards, document performance issues, and recommend corrective actions.
• Administer the local guard contract, serve as Government Technical Monitor, and review invoices for approval.
• Assist in preparing the annual guard program budget, justify expenditures, and monitor budget execution.
• Coordinate security drills and planning with host‑nation security forces for facilities and residences.
• Verify and support initial and annual refresher training for guards, covering emergency response, explosive detection, and chemical/biological awareness.
• Maintain inventory of government‑owned and contractor‑provided equipment, establish reorder points, and manage expendable supplies.

Required profile

• Locally employed staff eligible to work in South Africa.
• Experience in contract administration, budget management, and security operations.
• Ability to work under the direction of senior security officers and collaborate with host‑nation authorities.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
