Level 3 Engineer – Advanced IT Support & Security

About the role

The Level 3 Engineer is a full‑time, on‑site position in Johannesburg, providing advanced technical support, compliance, cyber‑security and infrastructure management for Westech’s diverse client base.

Key responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex IT issues across servers, networks and security systems.
• Manage Windows and Linux servers, Active Directory, firewalls, switches and routing equipment.
• Conduct compliance audits and ensure adherence to security standards.
• Design, implement and optimise IT solutions, including upgrades and migrations.
• Document configurations, procedures and maintain accurate records.
• Provide escalation support to Level 1 and Level 2 engineers.
• Contribute to technical standards and mentor junior staff.
• Support project delivery within agreed timeframes and service levels.

Required profile

• Strong expertise in server and network infrastructure (Windows/Linux, AD, firewalls, switches, routing).
• Advanced knowledge of IT security, backup/recovery and monitoring tools.
• Proficiency with virtualization and cloud platforms (VMware, Hyper‑V, Microsoft 365, Azure).
• Experience with ITIL frameworks and ticketing/documentation systems.
• Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical problems.
• Excellent communication skills for client‑facing interactions.
• Relevant certifications (Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA, VMware) and a diploma or degree in IT or related field.
• Previous experience in managed services or IT consulting is an advantage.
