Legal Specialist – Motor Dealership Compliance

About the role

We are seeking a Legal Specialist to provide first‑line legal, compliance and risk‑management support within a motor dealership environment. Reporting to the Group Compliance Manager, you will help implement and maintain effective legal and regulatory practices across the Group.

Key responsibilities

• Provide practical advice on anti‑money laundering, privacy, data‑protection, contractual matters and evolving legal requirements.
• Review, draft and negotiate contracts, mandate letters and other legal agreements.
• Prepare legal opinions and advisory notes on legislative, regulatory and contractual matters.
• Identify, assess and support implementation of controls to mitigate legal and compliance risks.
• Support statutory and regulatory returns and registrations, including FIC, PAIA and Information Regulator submissions.
• Assist the Group Legal and Compliance Manager with litigation management.
• Monitor regulatory developments and advise on their impact.
• Contribute to executive and governance‑level compliance reporting.
• Develop and deliver legal and compliance training.
• Maintain the contracts management tracker and highlight high‑risk clauses.

Required profile

• LLB degree; admission as an attorney is advantageous.
• Motor vehicle dealer experience with strong contract drafting and legal opinion writing skills.
• Working knowledge of the FIC Act, PAIA, POPIA and related regulatory frameworks.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and relationship‑building abilities.
• Highly organised, detail‑oriented, professional, ethical and results‑driven.

Required skills

• Proficiency with AI and digital tools to enhance efficiency.
• FAIS compliance knowledge (advantageous).
• Membership of the Compliance Institute of Southern Africa (CISA) or equivalent certification.
