Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor – Animal Breeding

About the role
We are seeking qualified academics to join the Department of Animal Science at the University of the Free State, Bloemfontein Campus. The appointment can be at Lecturer, Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor level, focusing on Animal Breeding and related disciplines.
Key responsibilities
- Teach and assess undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Animal Breeding.
- Supervise postgraduate research and provide academic leadership.
- Secure external research funding and develop industry collaborations.
- Generate third‑stream income and engage with community projects such as Farmer’s Days.
- Recruit postgraduate students and contribute to departmental, faculty and university committees.
Required profile
- Lecturer: PhD (NQF Level 10) in Animal Breeding or related field for permanent posts, or a Master’s (NQF Level 9) with a commitment to obtain a PhD within five years for contract posts.
- Senior Lecturer: PhD in Animal Breeding, national recognition, NRF rating or potential, and proven supervision of master’s students.
- Associate Professor: PhD in Animal Breeding, external examiner experience, editorial board membership, NRF rating C3 or equivalent, and a strong publication record.
