Lecturer – Nursing and Midwifery

About the role

The Department of Nursing and Midwifery at Stellenbosch University seeks a dedicated Lecturer to support undergraduate and postgraduate nursing programmes. The role combines teaching, curriculum development, clinical supervision, and research supervision within a vibrant academic environment.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate learning and develop nursing education, teaching, and research aligned with university, SANC, and health department standards.
• Teach, mentor, and supervise students in theoretical and practical components of nursing programmes.
• Plan, organise, and contribute to curriculum development and assessment of theory and clinical modules.
• Prepare and deliver learning materials, coordinate assessments, and ensure quality assurance for allocated modules.
• Provide clinical supervision, teaching, and follow‑up for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
• Develop and present short learning programmes and participate in departmental social impact projects.
• Supervise/co‑supervise postgraduate research and manage academic administration for assigned modules.

Required profile

• Master's degree in Nursing.
• Postgraduate diploma or degree in Nursing Education.
• Current registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Professional Nurse and Midwife, and as an assessor/moderator.
• Minimum two years of teaching experience at a nursing education institution.
• Evidence of postgraduate research supervision.
• Computer literacy appropriate for research and lecturing.
• Additional postgraduate qualification in a nursing specialisation, leadership experience, and publications are advantageous.
