Lecturer – Agricultural Economics (Agribusiness)

About the role

Stellenbosch University’s Faculty of AgriSciences is seeking academic leaders at senior, lecturer and junior levels to join the Department of Agricultural Economics on the Stellenbosch Campus. The role involves teaching, research and strategic engagement in agribusiness and farm management.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate modules in agribusiness management, farm management, production economics, financial management and applied economic analysis.
• Provide academic leadership aligned with the appointment level, contributing to the Faculty’s strategic initiatives.
• Advance research on farm‑level decision making, value‑chain management and agricultural competitiveness, publishing in accredited journals.
• Build interdisciplinary collaborations with industry, agribusiness firms, financial institutions and value‑chain partners.
• Source, manage and fund local and international research projects, including stakeholder engagement.
• Supervise honours, master’s and doctoral students, and co‑supervise where appropriate.

Required profile

• Junior Lecturer: MSc in Agricultural Economics or related discipline.
• Lecturer / Senior Lecturer: PhD in Agricultural Economics or related discipline.
• Demonstrated knowledge of farm management, agribusiness management, production economics and applied economic analysis.
• Strong analytical and quantitative abilities to interpret financial, production and market data.
• Commitment to teaching, research and the core values of Stellenbosch University.
