Lead Mechanical Engineer – Mechanical Design Lead

About the role

We are seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to head our mechanical design function at Triz Engineering Solutions in Centurion. The role will drive the development of high‑integration vehicle systems for commercial‑vehicle platforms, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Build, lead and mentor a high‑performing mechanical design team.
• Provide technical guidance and oversee design reviews for medium‑ and heavy‑duty vehicle projects.
• Act as primary interface with customers to capture requirements and align resources.
• Allocate tasks, manage workloads and ensure efficient use of engineering personnel.
• Plan and monitor project schedules, report deviations and guarantee compliance with industry and regulatory standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering.
• Minimum 15 years of engineering design experience, preferably in automotive or commercial‑vehicle development.
• Proven ability to work under pressure and manage complex projects.
• Willingness to travel overseas as project needs dictate.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience using AI‑enabled engineering and digital tools for design governance, data integrity and resource optimisation.
