Lead Interior Designer - Remote with Travel

About the role

An established design company specialising in hospitality and lodge projects, with operations based in Africa, is looking for a talented, creative and technically strong Lead Interior Designer. The position is permanent and full-time or part-time, based in South Africa, and the successful candidate leads interior design projects from concept through to installation and handover, working closely with the Creative Directors. The role is described as remote, with travel to neighbouring African countries and remote lodge sites when required.

Key responsibilities

• Lead interior design projects from concept to completion
• Develop layouts, detailed drawings, specifications and material selections
• Coordinate suppliers, procurement, budgets and project timelines
• Oversee design documentation, installations and final handovers
• Coordinate and review the work of supporting designers

Required profile

• Excellent technical CAD skills, covering plans, elevations, sections, joinery detailing and construction documentation
• Strong SketchUp proficiency
• Exceptional creative flair, design judgement and an eye for furniture, lighting, finishes, fabrics and materials
• Ability to develop mood boards, design concepts and professional presentations
• Strong project coordination, sourcing and procurement skills
• Excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving abilities
• Willingness to travel to African neighbours such as Botswana and to remote lodge sites when required
