Lead Electrical Controls & Instrumentation Engineer

About the role

Our client is looking for a Lead Electrical, Controls & Instrumentation (EC&I) Engineer to join the KwaZulu‑Natal team on an upcoming infrastructure project. The role involves delivering electrical design, installation and maintenance solutions for complex industrial facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Design, specify and oversee installation of power transformers, MV/LV systems and distribution panels.
• Develop earthing and lightning protection schemes in accordance with SANS 10313 and IEC 62305.
• Lead hazardous‑area electrical design for fuel depots and similar industrial sites.
• Integrate and commission industrial control systems and ensure compliance with CompEx (Ex01‑Ex06) standards.
• Provide technical guidance to multidisciplinary teams and manage project documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (SAQA‑recognised); MEng or MSc preferred.
• Professional Engineer registration (PrEng) with ECSA and a valid driver’s licence.
• Minimum 10 years experience in infrastructure upgrades, refurbishment and hazardous‑area projects.
• Registered Installation Electrician or Master Electrician status.
• Traceable professional references.

Required skills

• Power transformer design, installation and maintenance.
• MV/LV electrical systems.
• Earthing and lightning protection design (SANS 10313, IEC 62305).
• Industrial control systems and CPD training.
• CompEx (Ex01‑Ex06) or IECEx CoPC certification.
• GPR and ArcGIS (advantageous).
• Hazardous‑area electrical design.
