Lead Android Developer

About the role

We are seeking a Lead Android Developer to drive the creation of high‑performance mobile applications. In this senior position you will combine hands‑on coding with team leadership, shaping the Android strategy and delivering scalable solutions for our Johannesburg‑based projects.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain native Android applications using modern frameworks and architectural patterns.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams—including designers, product owners and backend engineers—to define and implement new features.
• Mentor and guide junior developers, fostering best‑practice coding standards and improving overall team capability.
• Integrate applications with external APIs and data sources, handling RESTful services and JSON payloads.
• Ensure applications are reliable, scalable and optimised for performance, applying profiling and optimisation techniques.
• Work closely with UI/UX teams to deliver intuitive and engaging user experiences.
• Continuously evaluate development processes and introduce improvements.

Required profile

• Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, IT or a related discipline.
• Proven track record of delivering high‑quality native Android solutions.
• Experience leading or mentoring development teams in a senior capacity.
• Strong problem‑solving and debugging abilities.
