Lead Accountant

About the role

Join a dynamic bakery business where you will lead the accounting function, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with internal controls. You will work closely with the Bakery Manager and provide insights that drive profitability.

Key responsibilities

• Process monthly journals, maintain the general ledger and prepare reconciliations.
• Conduct cost analysis, inventory reporting and maintain the fixed asset register.
• Assist internal and external auditors and enforce internal control procedures.
• Lead and monitor the performance of administrative staff.
• Analyse weekly financial accounts and plan cash flow, monitoring bank accounts.
• Review debtor ageing weekly and reconcile stock movements after monthly counts.
• Compile annual budgets, year‑end accounts and supporting schedules.
• Implement financial standards, policies, procedures and internal controls aligned to the bakery’s BMR.

Required profile

• Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) – non‑negotiable.
• Strong communication and business analytical abilities.
• 2‑3 years of accounting experience in FMCG or manufacturing environments.
• Ability to work within the company’s employment equity framework.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience using Oracle financial systems.
