Labour Consultant

About the role

The Labour Consultant will provide expert advice and support to a portfolio of clients across South Africa, primarily focusing on employment law and human‑resources matters. The role involves travelling to client sites in the Western Cape and nationally, representing the consultancy in disciplinary and arbitration proceedings, and helping clients navigate complex labour legislation.

Key responsibilities

• Advise clients on retrenchment, disciplinary and incapacity procedures.
• Chair disciplinary enquiries and represent clients at CCMA, Bargaining Council conciliations and arbitrations.
• Draft and review contracts of employment and related documentation.
• Stay up‑to‑date with South African labour legislation and ensure client compliance.
• Identify and acquire new clients, expanding the consultancy’s market presence.
• Travel to client locations as required, including overnight stays.

Required profile

• Minimum B.Com Law/LLB or HR‑related tertiary qualification.
• At least 3 years of experience in labour consulting or employment law.
• Proven ability to work independently and manage a client portfolio.
• Strong written and spoken English; Afrikaans is an advantage.
• Own a reliable vehicle and willingness to travel extensively.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of South African labour legislation.
• Experience with CCMA and Bargaining Council processes.
• Competence in drafting employment contracts and related legal documents.
• Ability to conduct disciplinary hearings and represent clients in arbitrations.
