Junior VoIP Engineer – SIP & Asterisk PBX (Cape Town)

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Junior VoIP Engineer to join our team in Cape Town. You will work under the guidance of senior engineers, gaining hands‑on experience with SIP trunking, Asterisk PBX and related telephony technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Observe and assist with SIP trunk configurations and basic call routing between carriers, SBCs and internal PBX components.
• Monitor platform health dashboards, flag anomalies and support incident resolution.
• Develop familiarity with Asterisk PBX and Wazo E‑UC administration.
• Log issues, tasks and updates in Jira, ensuring tickets are accurate and up‑to‑date.
• Contribute to internal documentation based on practical learning.

Required profile

• Minimum 1 year experience in Linux/VoIP/IT support or a relevant academic/training background.
• Basic comfort with Linux command line, reading logs and checking service status.
• Foundational networking knowledge (IP addressing, TCP/UDP, NAT, firewalls, DNS).
• Basic understanding of IP telephony and SIP concepts.
• Familiarity with HTTP/SIP response codes and strong troubleshooting instincts.
• Curiosity to learn tools such as Asterisk, Wireshark and SBCs.
• Availability for periodic off‑peak maintenance windows.
• Team‑oriented and willing to work onsite.
