Junior Production Manager – Scrap Metal

About the role

SA Metal is looking for a committed, hardworking and trustworthy person to join its Production department as a Junior Production Manager. The successful candidate reports directly to the Branch Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure all operational processes and procedures are followed, and that company policies, procedures and Health & Safety regulations are adhered to.
• Identify the exact quality and specification of commodities purchased, and reject non-metallic items and inferior-quality metals.
• Maintain good customer relations and identify and report fraudulent transactions.
• Keep records accurate and reconciled for all items purchased and dispatched, and comply with the Second-hand Goods Act when buying scrap.
• Lead and supervise a team, delegate tasks, and manage staff discipline and daily operations.
• Make sure assistants inspect scrap thoroughly and that all metals are displayed openly for photographing.
• Train and license staff on machinery and equipment, ensure they wear the correct PPE, and maintain plant and equipment according to the maintenance schedule.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent.
• At least 5 years' supervisory experience and 5 years' experience in a production industry.
• Conversant with the Second-hand Goods Act and good knowledge of H&S regulations.
• Scrap metal experience is an advantage.
• Able to liaise professionally with customers, suppliers and colleagues, work under pressure, and be flexible to work overtime.
