Junior Medical Advisor – Managed Healthcare

About the role

Bestmed Medical Scheme is seeking a Junior Medical Advisor to join its Medical Advisory team in Pretoria. This entry‑level role offers hands‑on experience in managed healthcare, allowing you to develop clinical expertise while supporting the design and delivery of cost‑effective health benefits.

Key responsibilities

• Assess clinical cases and deliver evidence‑based recommendations.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers and multidisciplinary teams to optimise patient outcomes.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of clinical protocols, funding guidelines and benefit structures.
• Support strategic initiatives, research projects and benefit‑design activities across the scheme.
• Participate in training and mentorship programmes to build advisory competence.

Required profile

• Grade 12 and a medical degree (MBChB) with eligibility for independent practice.
• Completed internship and community service.
• Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
• Minimum three years of experience, including internship and community service.
• Medical‑aid industry knowledge is advantageous.

Required skills

• Understanding of disease management and managed care programmes.
• Familiarity with pharmacy benefit management (PBM) and underwriting concepts.
• Ability to interpret clinical evidence and apply it to benefit design.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities.
