Junior Data Engineer (Hybrid) – Cape Town

About the role

Lesaka Technologies' EasyPay platform processes millions of transactions daily, creating a massive flow of data that must be clean, reliable, and instantly queryable. As a Junior Data Engineer you will join a fast‑moving fintech data team to design, build, and maintain the pipelines that move transaction, merchant and reconciliation data into our modern data warehouse.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines that ingest high‑volume transactional data.
• Write and optimise SQL queries to transform raw data into well‑modelled, analytics‑ready tables.
• Monitor pipeline health, detect and resolve data‑quality issues before they affect downstream users.
• Collaborate with data engineers and analysts to provide clean, documented datasets.
• Contribute to version‑controlled, tested code and keep pipeline documentation and lineage up to date.

Required profile

• 1‑2 years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering or a related backend data role.
• Strong SQL skills with the ability to write and debug complex queries.
• Proficiency in Python for scripting and data transformation.
• Familiarity with a modern cloud data warehouse such as Snowflake, BigQuery or Redshift.
• Understanding of Git version control and basic CI/CD concepts.
• Comfort working with large, messy transactional datasets.
