Junior Buyer – Food & Packaging Procurement

About the role

The Junior Buyer will manage the purchasing, planning and supplier relationships for all dry and packaging goods at UCOOK. Using historical usage data, you will ensure inventory levels are optimized to avoid waste while supporting production schedules.

Key responsibilities

• Forecast demand and compile purchase orders in line with supplier lead times.
• Manage stock transfers between UCOOK warehouses in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
• Coordinate with stock and receiving teams to guarantee timely delivery to production.
• Conduct supplier onboarding, negotiate terms, and enforce compliance with UCOOK’s Quality Management Systems.
• Monitor supplier performance, address financial queries, and handle stock returns.
• Collaborate with the New Product Development team on sourcing, pricing and specification for new meal‑kit items.
• Maintain stock health by tracking usage, shelf‑life and waste, and raise alerts for excess inventory.
• Prepare weekly reports on margins, waste write‑offs, out‑of‑stock situations and project updates.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in the food industry.
• 1–2 years of relevant purchasing or supply‑chain experience.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Strong collaborative attitude and ability to work across multiple departments.
