Junior Associate – Litigation Attorney

About the role

Pather & Pather Attorneys is looking for a motivated Junior Associate to join its Litigation Department. The role offers the opportunity to manage a diverse litigation portfolio, appear in court, and develop strong drafting and research skills while providing high‑quality legal services to clients.

Key responsibilities

• Manage litigation matters from inception through finalisation, including drafting summonses, particulars of claim, pleadings, notices, affidavits, applications, opinions and correspondence.
• Attend client consultations, liaise with counsel, witnesses and experts, and appear in Magistrates’ Courts.
• Prepare trial and application bundles, brief counsel, and negotiate settlements.
• Conduct legal research, provide practical advice, and ensure compliance with court rules and practice directives.
• Maintain accurate file management, diary control and time recording.

Required profile

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
• 1–2 years post‑admission experience, preferably in general civil litigation.
• Experience in debt collection/recoveries or motor vehicle insurance litigation is an advantage.
• Sound knowledge of the Uniform Rules of Court and Magistrates’ Court Rules.

Required skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Familiarity with Court Online and CaseLines platforms.
