Junior Accountant – Tax & VAT

About the role

We are seeking a motivated Junior Accountant to join our finance team, focusing on tax and VAT responsibilities. The role offers the chance to work with South Africa's tax authority, SARS, and to develop expertise in both direct and indirect tax compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with compliance across all tax types, including reviewing Income Tax assessments, drafting objections to SARS, and managing provisional tax returns.
• Compile and reconcile monthly input and output VAT reports, ensuring accuracy before submission.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns and related payments on time, and record flawless monthly accounting entries.
• Handle enquiries from the South African Revenue Service (SARS) efficiently.
• Collaborate with internal teams to support VAT risk management and overall tax efficiency.

Required profile

• BCom Accounting qualification.
• SAIPA or SAIT registration.
• 3–5 years of experience in tax, covering both direct and indirect tax.
• Experience working with complex organisational structures.

Required skills

• VAT reporting and reconciliation.
• Tax compliance and provisional tax filing.
• Knowledge of SARS processes and objection drafting.
• Strong analytical and accuracy‑focused accounting skills.
