Junior Accountant

About the role

Our client in the fuel industry is looking for an energetic and detail‑oriented Junior Accountant to join its finance team in Sandton. This role offers a solid foundation for a finance professional eager to develop skills in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.

Key responsibilities

• Process and reconcile bank accounts and cashbooks.
• Prepare journals and perform general ledger reconciliations.
• Execute balance‑sheet reconciliations and support month‑end closing.
• Reconcile creditors and debtors, and process invoices.
• Assist with VAT calculations and statutory submissions.
• Prepare financial reports and analyse data using Microsoft Excel.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and audit requirements.
• Ensure compliance with company financial policies and provide general accounting support.

Required profile

• Grade 12 (Matric) minimum; a diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field is a plus.
• 2‑4 years of accounting experience, preferably in a retail environment.
• Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with accounting systems such as Sage, Pastel, SAP or similar.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, reconciliation and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail, numerical accuracy and ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
