IT Support Technician I – Hardware

About the role

The Information and Technology Services Department at Rhodes University is seeking an IT Support Technician I (Hardware) to provide hardware technical support to university staff and ensure the reliable operation of a wide range of equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to users’ needs for hardware technical support.
• Provide professional, efficient and accurate responses to enable university staff with their IT needs.
• Maintain financial sustainability of equipment by managing and supporting computers, laptops, monitors, printers, scanners, projectors and audio‑visual gear.

Required profile

• Grade 12 with at least two years of relevant experience in an IT equipment support environment.
• Experience troubleshooting, diagnosing and solving hardware and software issues.
• Background in a Windows user support environment using Microsoft Office 365 and Google Workspace.
• Proven ability to work in a team where ticket escalation occurs.
• Familiarity with an electronic ticket tracking system for IT support queries.
• At least six months of hands‑on experience repairing computer components.
