Investment Banking Analyst, Advisory

About the role

Liberty, a prominent South African financial services group, is seeking an Investment Banking Analyst to join its Advisory team in Johannesburg. The role supports the origination, structuring and execution of advisory transactions, operating under supervision and giving exposure to the full Advisory product portfolio. It aims to contribute to the growth of the Advisory business while respecting Corporate and Investment Banking risk parameters and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the origination of new advisory mandates, including market research, identifying potential clients and understanding their strategic objectives.
• Support the structuring of transactions, with a clear understanding of financial instruments, corporate finance principles and deal mechanics.
• Contribute to the execution of advisory mandates so that each step is managed efficiently.
• Carry out financial analysis, including company valuations, financial modelling and scenario planning, to support transaction recommendations.
• Prepare client presentations, pitch books and other transaction documentation.
• Perform due diligence on potential transactions to assess risks and opportunities.
• Work closely with senior bankers and other stakeholders internally and externally.
• Ensure compliance with internal risk policies and external regulatory frameworks.

Required profile

• A relevant first-degree in Business, Commerce or a related field.
• 1-2 years of experience in Investment Banking Advisory roles is highly advantageous; general banking experience is also beneficial.
• Ability to work in a team and meet deadlines proactively.
• Solid understanding of business principles, client needs and deal negotiation dynamics.
