Internal Controls Specialist

About the role

The Internal Controls Specialist supports the Manager of Internal Controls in strengthening Transnet's internal control environment. The role focuses on coordinating and executing internal audits across operational and financial areas, ensuring compliance with international audit standards and Transnet's methodology.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct 2‑line assurance audits in line with the three‑year Internal Control Assurance plan.
• Execute ad‑hoc internal control assurance reviews requested by management.
• Perform audits of management actions addressing internal audit findings.
• Assist in developing control frameworks for processes lacking them.
• Provide training and awareness sessions on internal controls.
• Load audit findings into the SAP GRC system and track remediation.
• Follow‑up on internal and external audit findings to ensure timely resolution.

Required profile

• Undergraduate degree in finance or auditing.
• 3–5 years of experience in a financial compliance role, preferably in the public sector.
• Understanding of audit and assurance practices, control design, and corporate governance (King IV).
• Driver’s licence code 08 and willingness to work extended hours.
• High level of trust and honesty in handling finances as per the National Credit Act Amendment.
