In‑House Legal Counsel – Commercial Attorney (2+ yrs)

About the role

We are seeking an admitted attorney with at least two years of post‑admission experience to join a leading organisation as an In‑House Legal Counsel. This position offers a hybrid work model in the Johannesburg Metropolitan Area and provides the chance to move from billable‑hour private practice to a strategic, business‑focused legal function.

Key responsibilities

• Provide practical, commercially‑focused legal advice to internal stakeholders.
• Draft, review, negotiate and manage commercial agreements.
• Identify and mitigate legal and commercial risks across the business.
• Advise on regulatory compliance, corporate governance and policy matters.
• Support procurement, supplier, customer and partnership negotiations.
• Collaborate with finance, HR, sales, operations, compliance and executive teams.
• Assist with dispute resolution and litigation management when required.
• Manage contract lifecycle processes and maintain legal documentation.
• Support international legal matters and cross‑border initiatives.

Required profile

• LLB degree and admission as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
• Approximately 2+ years post‑admission experience.
• Strong drafting, negotiation and contract‑management abilities.
• Commercial mindset with solid business acumen.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical business advice.
• Strong stakeholder‑management and relationship‑building capabilities.
