Infrastructure Designer

About the role

The Infrastructure Designer is responsible for end‑to‑end design, governance and architectural assurance of secure, resilient and compliant cloud, hybrid and data‑centre solutions within Nedbank’s Movement of Value environment. The role supports the bank’s cloud adoption, payment‑system modernisation and regulatory compliance initiatives while operating within defined risk appetite and security standards.

Key responsibilities

• Own and define infrastructure architecture designs aligned with enterprise standards, reference architectures and strategic roadmaps.
• Ensure design consistency across cloud, hybrid and on‑premises environments and create scalable, secure solutions.
• Embed security, risk and regulatory controls by design, collaborating with Risk, Security and Compliance functions throughout the lifecycle.
• Design infrastructure to meet availability, performance, disaster‑recovery and resilience requirements for critical banking platforms.
• Apply FinOps principles to guarantee cost transparency, optimisation and governance of cloud consumption.
• Provide architectural assurance for delivery initiatives, review and approve designs, and manage deviations and risk treatments.
• Act as design authority in architecture governance forums, supporting reviews, risk assessments and executive decision‑making.
• Engage with business, technology and delivery stakeholders as a trusted advisor, clearly communicating design decisions, trade‑offs and risk implications.
• Support investment approval submissions with design justification and cost estimates.

Required profile

• Proven experience designing enterprise‑scale infrastructure in large financial or comparable organisations.
• Deep understanding of cloud, hybrid and data‑centre environments, including networking, identity, compute, storage and platform services.
• Strong knowledge of security, risk and regulatory requirements for banking, payments and data protection.
• Ability to work closely with risk, security and compliance teams throughout the design lifecycle.
• Excellent communication skills to articulate design decisions and risk implications to senior stakeholders.
