Information Officer – Data Protection

About the role

Revolut is seeking an experienced Information Officer to lead its privacy and data‑protection compliance programme in South Africa. You will act as the official liaison with the Information Regulator and shape how personal data is managed across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the registered Information Officer for South Africa, interfacing with the Information Regulator.
• Build and lead a local privacy team while coordinating with the global Data Protection Officer.
• Design and implement a comprehensive framework for handling personal information to meet South African and European privacy standards.
• Conduct deep‑dive reviews of new products and AI tools to ensure fairness, transparency, and security.
• Create detailed data‑flow maps and manage the full data lifecycle, including automated deletion.
• Act as the primary contact for audits, regulatory reports, and inquiries.
• Partner with engineering to embed privacy features directly into applications.
• Oversee customer requests to access, correct, or delete personal data.
• Run regular security checks to protect against cyber threats and data leaks.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in compliance, privacy, risk management, legal or audit functions.
• Deep knowledge of POPIA, FICA, NCA, CPA, GDPR and the Financial Sector Regulation Act.
• Proven ability to advise on privacy risks and support business units through stakeholder engagements.
• Strong interest in expanding expertise in data and AI governance.
• Solid understanding of the interaction between privacy regulations and business operations.
