Industrial Designer

About the role

This mid-level Industrial Designer position is based in Cape Town and focuses on traditional product development with a strong emphasis on user-centred design. The designer translates concepts into locally appropriate products, refines existing items and delivers robust designs, working under the mentorship and supervision of the Head of Design. The role is on-site and involves close collaboration with internal and external clinical teams, suppliers and production staff.

Key responsibilities

• Develop product improvements and execute product customisations to meet functional requirements.
• Draft technical assembly instructions, user documentation and detailed technical drawings for production teams and external suppliers.
• Maintain the design department's filing system in line with the organisation's Quality Management System (QMS).
• Accompany the clinical team as a technician during clinics and help with product field testing.
• Work with the production team to maintain, verify and improve overall product quality.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Industrial Design (or equivalent).
• 4 years of experience as an Industrial Designer with a technical background.
• Excellent English proficiency.
• Valid driver's licence.
• Self-motivated, inquisitive, highly attentive to detail, with strong verbal, written and prototyping problem-solving skills.

Required skills

• Hands-on experience and safety using a range of workshop tools.
• SolidWorks (3D modelling, sheet metal features, technical drawings).
• Fusion360.
• Working knowledge of electronics is an advantage.
