About the role
The ICU Unit Manager will lead a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, cost‑effective, high‑quality patient care in a hospital setting. You will be responsible for overseeing clinical governance, mentoring staff, and driving continuous improvement across the unit.
Key responsibilities
- Ensure safe, evidence‑based patient care aligned with the organisation’s clinical governance strategy.
- Evaluate patient journeys, experience, and stakeholder feedback to improve service delivery.
- Monitor nursing quality indicators and clinical outcomes, reporting on performance.
- Communicate clearly with patients about their care plans and promote health and wellbeing for patients and staff.
- Enforce infection prevention protocols and international standard precautions.
- Implement group quality initiatives and liaise with public liability on risk incidents.
Required profile
- Relevant nursing qualification (B Cur Degree or equivalent) and post‑basic ICU qualification.
- 3‑5 years experience as a Unit Manager or Shift Leader in an ICU setting.
- Compliance with the SANC code for Registered Nurses and all applicable healthcare legislation.
- Compulsory BLS certification.
- Flexible availability for shift work.
Required skills
- Advanced computer literacy.
- Knowledge of the Kronos scheduling system (beneficial).
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
