About the role

The IBMi Systems Administrator (Junior) role is part of a technical succession pipeline, offering accelerated development toward full IBMi administration responsibility. Working closely with senior engineers, the incumbent will support daily operations across IBM i, Power Systems and storage platforms while gaining hands‑on experience.

Key responsibilities

• Administer and maintain IBM i (AS/400) environments across production, DR, development and test systems.
• Perform system configuration, upgrades, PTF management and OS maintenance.
• Monitor jobs, subsystems, queues, system logs, disk usage, ASPs and overall performance.
• Manage IBM Power infrastructure via HMC, including LPAR provisioning, firmware updates and hardware change coordination.
• Administer IBM FlashSystem and SAN storage – provisioning, performance tuning, replication (FlashCopy, MIMIX) and snapshot management.
• Support high‑availability and disaster‑recovery solutions, execute backup/restore procedures and validate DR tests to meet RPO/RTO targets.
• Implement IBM i security controls – user profiles, authorities, password policies and certificate management.
• Conduct capacity planning, performance tuning and produce regular health reports.
• Support IBM i‑based integrations such as MQ, Connect:Direct and XCOM, and resolve production incidents.

Required profile

• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification with a relevant IT credential.
• 3–5 years of hands‑on experience managing IBM i (AS/400) environments.
• Experience in large enterprise or financial‑services settings is advantageous.
• Operator or Administrator certification for relevant operating systems preferred, along with IBM‑approved badges.
