Human Resources Manager

About the role

The company, a well‑established organisation in Umhlanga, is seeking a driven HR Manager to shape and execute its people strategy. This senior‑level role combines strategic advisory duties with hands‑on leadership in a fast‑paced, unionised environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the national HR function, develop annual HR plans and manage departmental initiatives.
• Oversee employee and industrial relations, including disciplinary matters, investigations, hearings, grievances and CCMA representation.
• Ensure compliance with employment equity, WSP/ATR submissions, labour law, contract management and HR audits.
• Design and execute recruitment strategy, talent identification, onboarding, probation management and succession planning.
• Drive performance management processes, accountability structures and consequence management.
• Lead strategic HR projects such as leadership development, organisational design, policy implementation and training initiatives.
• Own payroll oversight – coordinate monthly inputs, verify data, manage queries and ensure statutory compliance (UIF, PAYE, SDL).

Required profile

• Proven experience managing HR in a unionised South African environment.
• Deep knowledge of South African labour law and CCMA processes.
• Strong capability in employee relations, investigations and dispute resolution.
• Demonstrated ability to develop HR strategy, lead teams and influence senior leadership.
• Excellent analytical and governance skills for compliance reporting and audits.

Required skills

• Knowledge of South African labour legislation and employment equity requirements.
• Experience handling union negotiations and de‑escalation.
• Ability to manage outsourced payroll while maintaining internal controls.
• Proficiency in HR audits, compliance reporting and policy implementation.
