HR & Payroll Administrator

About the role

We are seeking a diligent HR & Payroll Administrator to join our Johannesburg office. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing payroll using Pastel Payroll and supporting day‑to‑day HR operations, ensuring compliance with South African labour legislation and data‑protection standards. You will work closely with finance and operations teams to ensure seamless payroll processing and accurate employee records.

Key responsibilities

• Process monthly payroll accurately with Pastel Payroll, including salary changes, deductions, overtime and commissions.
• Reconcile payroll results and prepare statutory submissions to SARS (PAYE, UIF, SDL).
• Respond to employee payroll queries and resolve discrepancies.
• Coordinate onboarding and off‑boarding, maintain confidential personnel files and HR databases.
• Administer leave records (sick, annual, maternity) and draft employment contracts and HR correspondence.
• Ensure HR practices comply with BCEA, LRA and POPIA regulations.

Required profile

• Matric (Grade 12) required; tertiary qualification in HR, Finance or Administration is a plus.
• 3–5 years proven experience in HR and payroll administration.
• High attention to detail, strong numerical ability and strict confidentiality.
• Ability to interpret and apply South African labour laws and data‑protection requirements.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with Pastel Payroll (Sage Partner/Pastel).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the broader MS Office suite.
• Ability to generate reports and perform data analysis in Excel.
