HR Generalist – Umhlanga, KZN

About the role

Our client in the cleaning and facilities sector is seeking a proactive HR Generalist to support a workforce of around 1,000 employees across multiple sites in Umhlanga, KZN. The role combines day‑to‑day HR operations with strategic people initiatives in a fast‑moving environment.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the full HR lifecycle: recruitment, onboarding, performance management and exits.
• Handle employee relations, disciplinary actions and grievance procedures in line with South African labour law.
• Ensure compliance with BCEA, LRA, Employment Equity and other relevant legislation.
• Oversee payroll input, leave administration and employee record keeping.
• Support line managers with HR policy guidance, coaching and best‑practice advice.
• Drive HR initiatives such as wellness programmes, employee engagement and training.
• Prepare HR reports, maintain HR systems and assist with audits and compliance checks.
• Contribute to Employment Equity submissions and Workplace Skills Plans.

Required profile

• 2–4+ years of proven HR generalist experience, preferably in services, facilities or cleaning.
• Strong knowledge of South African labour legislation.
• Relevant HR qualification (diploma or degree preferred).
• Excellent English communication; additional language skills are a plus.
• Valid driver’s licence, reliable vehicle and willingness to travel between sites.
• Clear criminal record and ability to work independently while supporting multiple stakeholders.
