Head of Retail

About the role

PUMA is seeking a dynamic, commercially driven Head of Retail to lead and grow its brick‑and‑mortar store network across South Africa. Based at the Cape Town head office, you will travel frequently to support and coach store teams, ensuring operational excellence and superior customer experience.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a strategic plan for sustainable long‑term growth of the retail division.
• Set sales targets, monitor performance against budgets, and drive revenue and profitability across all stores.
• Analyse sales trends, identify corrective actions, and pursue opportunities to increase market share and customer spend.
• Manage retail budgets, control labour costs, and oversee store profitability and operating expenses.
• Negotiate store leases, renewals, and third‑party service agreements.
• Lead talent acquisition, training, development and succession planning in partnership with HR.
• Evaluate new store opportunities and expansion strategies.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Retail Management, Business or a related field.
• Minimum eight years of senior leadership experience in retail, with a proven track record of driving sales and profit growth.
• Strategic thinker with strong analytical and commercial acumen.
• Hands‑on, execution‑focused approach and ability to mentor and inspire teams.
• Willingness to travel nationally and spend time coaching store managers.
