Head of People & Culture

About the role

The company is seeking an experienced Head of People & Culture to lead its people strategy for a growing Logistics and Maritime Solutions operation based in Durban. The role blends strategic HR leadership across several sites with hands‑on delivery, ensuring the workforce stays engaged, capable, compliant and aligned with business goals.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement people strategies that support business growth and operational excellence.
• Partner with senior leaders on resource planning, organisational design, succession planning and talent management.
• Lead complex employee‑relations matters, including disciplinary processes, grievances, investigations and dispute resolution.
• Oversee recruitment, employer branding, onboarding and retention initiatives for both operational and corporate roles.
• Drive performance management, identify capability gaps and deliver learning and development programmes.
• Ensure compliance with employment legislation, industry regulations and company policies; manage payroll and benefits across multiple countries.
• Monitor HR metrics such as turnover, absenteeism and engagement, providing data‑driven insights to the executive team.
• Collaborate with the Group on BEE, Employment Equity and other compliance reporting.

Required profile

• BCom degree in Human Resources or a related field.
• Extensive senior HR leadership experience, preferably within logistics, maritime or similar multi‑site environments.
• Proven ability to act as a strategic business partner and to manage complex employee‑relations issues.
• Strong knowledge of South African employment legislation and compliance requirements.
