Head of Finance – 6‑month contract

About the role

We are seeking a strategic Head of Finance to lead financial analysis, reporting and controls for a leading African banking institution on a 6‑month fixed‑term contract, with the possibility of extension. The role oversees multiple business units and drives financial consolidation, compliance and performance optimisation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a multidisciplinary finance team across the Group Business Services Centre of Excellence.
• Develop and implement strategic goals for finance operations, ensuring alignment with consolidation standards and IFRS.
• Analyse financial data, highlight anomalies, and provide actionable recommendations to senior stakeholders.
• Oversee budgeting processes, ensuring budgets reflect economic indicators and strategic initiatives.
• Review reconciliations, resolve unreconciled items, and ensure accurate financial results.
• Prepare financial statements in compliance with IFRS and regulatory frameworks.
• Introduce AI‑driven tools to optimise workflow and reporting processes.
• Design and enforce financial controls, risk management and audit procedures.
• Consolidate financial reports, deliver value‑added insights, and engage with stakeholders.
• Coach and mentor the finance team, fostering continuous development and high‑quality analysis.

Required profile

• Proven senior finance leadership experience, preferably within banking or a large financial institution.
• Deep knowledge of IFRS, financial consolidation, and regulatory compliance.
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex financial information.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Track record of implementing process improvements and leveraging technology.
