Head of Engineering Governance

About the role

The Head of Engineering Governance will lead a specialised engineering support function within a respected engineering and manufacturing organisation. Reporting to the senior engineering leadership team, this senior leader will shape governance frameworks, policies and technical standards to enable the delivery of innovative, high‑quality products.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for the engineering governance function.
• Develop, improve and enforce engineering policies, standards and technical guidelines.
• Drive best practice in configuration, product data and lifecycle management.
• Lead engineering change and technical review processes across product development.
• Support engineering teams throughout the full product development lifecycle.
• Implement systems that enhance engineering quality, compliance and operational efficiency.
• Champion continuous‑improvement initiatives across engineering support functions.
• Mentor technical specialists and build future capability within the team.
• Collaborate closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain and Project teams to ensure successful product delivery.
• Identify opportunities to optimise engineering workflows and governance.
• Advise senior management on compliance, risk and improvement strategies.

Required profile

• BEng degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in a complex engineering product development environment.
• Proven experience leading engineering systems, governance or technical support functions.
• Strong understanding of engineering lifecycle management, change control and configuration principles.
• Demonstrated ability to implement processes, standards and continuous‑improvement programmes.
• Excellent leadership, stakeholder engagement and people‑management skills.
• Strong planning, organisational and analytical capabilities.
