Head of Department - Retail Store

About the role

Leroy Merlin South Africa is looking for a Head of Department in its Alberton store, Johannesburg. The role leads the department's commercial strategy, drives merchandising excellence and champions a customer-focused shopping experience. As a member of the store's management committee, you guide and develop your team, optimise product ranges, ensure efficient day-to-day operations and contribute to the store's business objectives and growth.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and optimise the product range based on customer needs, market trends and the store environment
• Select and manage product assortments in line with Leroy Merlin's merchandising and marketing strategies
• Drive sales and profitability through pricing, promotions and commercial initiatives
• Keep the sales floor full, clean and priced while maintaining high merchandising standards
• Create attractive, well organised product displays that enhance the customer experience
• Plan and run commercial campaigns and promotions to increase store traffic and meet revenue targets
• Work with the team to solve commercial challenges and support business goals
• Promote a culture of excellent customer service and hospitality, and engage with customers to build satisfaction and loyalty

Required profile

• Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification is essential
• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing or a related field preferred
• 5+ years of experience in retail management, with a proven record in a leadership role
• Strong understanding of merchandising, inventory management and retail operations
