Head of Calibration Laboratory – Senior Metrologist

About the role

We are seeking an experienced electronic metrology professional to lead our SANAS‑accredited Calibration Laboratory in Centurion. This senior position combines hands‑on calibration work with responsibility for accreditation, technical governance, people development and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Perform the duties of SANAS Laboratory Head to ensure continued accreditation.
• Lead the technical team to maximise laboratory efficiency, productivity and service quality.
• Ensure calibration activities are carried out with exceptional accuracy, efficiency and a customer‑focused approach.
• Provide advanced technical support and problem‑solving assistance.
• Mentor and develop junior metrologists and other laboratory personnel.
• Maintain compliance with company policies, procedures and quality‑management requirements.

Required profile

• Relevant engineering/electronics qualification or equivalent industry experience.
• 10+ years of electronic calibration/metrology experience.
• Registered or qualified as a Technical Signatory in multiple disciplines (DC Low Frequency, Time & Frequency, Radio Frequency).
• Strong knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and experience working in an accredited laboratory.
• Leadership and supervisory experience.

Required skills

• DC low‑frequency calibration: digital multimeters (up to 8½ digits), function generators, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies, LCR meters, power meters, low‑frequency impedance analysers, resistance/capacitance/inductance standards, current shunts up to 200 A.
• Time & frequency calibration: frequency counters, high‑stability frequency references, crystal oscillators, rubidium clocks.
• RF calibration up to 50 GHz: RF power sensors, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, microwave amplifiers, RF network analyzers, directional couplers, attenuators, modulation analysers.
• Development of uncertainty budgets and calibration procedures.
• Automated calibration software development.
