Head Mixologist

About the role

As Head Mixologist, you will lead the Bar team at a luxury property in Cape Town and deliver superior beverage experiences to guests. You will work with premium spirits, locally sourced ingredients and unique flavours to craft exclusive cocktails, tailor them to individual guest preferences and help create a personalised, luxurious atmosphere.

Key responsibilities

• Offer trend-setting, innovative products and services, contribute to sales and help maximise revenue.
• Drive changes to the cocktail menu so it stays fresh, innovative and seasonally accurate.
• Create drinks using high-quality spirits, liqueurs, fruits, vegetables and spices, and know the flavour, history and composition of every spirit.
• Work with the Outlet Manager to run the Bar and Restaurant smoothly.
• Train staff on beverage pouring, cocktail mixing, bottle flaring and up-selling, and train the service team on beverage knowledge and service standards.
• Perform bartender duties when needed and ensure service meets company standards.
• Develop a full knowledge of menu items, ingredients and preparation, and assist with beverage procurement and costing.
• Keep the bar fully stocked with beer, wine, spirits, paper products, condiments and produce, and stay up to date with the menu to advise guests.

Required profile

• Responsible alcohol service certification or licence, depending on jurisdiction and local regulations.
• Ability to engage with guests, understand their preferences and give recommendations.
• Attention to detail for accurate measurements, presentation and adherence to recipes.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of mixology, cocktail recipes and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
• Understanding of spirits, liqueurs and their characteristics.
