Handyman – General Maintenance & Repairs

About the role

The Handyman will support the facilities team by performing a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks across the building infrastructure. This role ensures that lighting, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting and other building elements remain functional and safe.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out routine and reactive maintenance on lighting, plumbing, basic electrical, carpentry, painting, furniture, fittings and fixtures.
• Support planned preventative maintenance programmes and respond to ad‑hoc service requests in line with SLAs.
• Conduct daily, weekly and monthly inspections, adhering to Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements and company SHEQ policies.
• Complete job cards accurately, log maintenance calls in the Contact Centre system and escalate high‑risk issues to the Building Manager or Shift Supervisor.
• Maintain tools in good condition, keep the workshop clean and organized, and ensure work areas are secured after each task.
• Deliver professional, courteous customer service to guests, clients and internal stakeholders.

Required profile

• Matric (NQF Level 4) – technical qualification is advantageous.
• 2–5 years of experience in facilities or maintenance.
• Strong time‑management skills and a customer‑service focus.
• Ability to work independently, be punctual, reliable and flexible for shift work and overtime.
• Commitment to safety standards and professional conduct.

Required skills

• Proficiency with hand and machine tools.
• Multi‑skilled in plumbing, basic electrical systems, carpentry and painting.
• General building maintenance and construction‑related activities.
• Familiarity with building services and maintenance inspection procedures.
