Group Chief Operations Officer (COO)

About the role

The Group Chief Operations Officer will report directly to the Group Chief Executive Officer and will be responsible for driving operational excellence across the GGDA group of companies. The role combines strategic planning, stakeholder management and compliance to support sustainable economic development in Gauteng.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day operations of the GGDA group, identifying and implementing efficiency improvements.
• Translate strategic initiatives into operational plans and ensure delivery against the Group’s strategic and operational targets.
• Collaborate with the Group CFO and CEO to guarantee financial viability of programmes and projects.
• Lead risk‑management activities and ensure compliance with PFMA, Treasury Regulations, BBBEE, PPPFA, and corporate‑governance frameworks.
• Prepare and present regular performance reports to the AGCEO, Board and shareholders.
• Mentor and develop a high‑performing management team and ensure timely, on‑budget delivery of infrastructure and other projects.
• Build and maintain relationships with government bodies, SOEs, private sector and international stakeholders.

Required profile

• Post‑graduate qualification in Management, Business Administration, Public Administration or related field (MBA/MBL preferred).
• Minimum 10 years experience in an executive management role with proven financial, operational and strategic leadership.
• At least 10 years experience supporting or serving on Board operations.
• Deep knowledge of Gauteng’s socio‑economic landscape, national and provincial priorities, and global economic trends.
• Strong understanding of economic‑development programmes, value‑add catalyst projects and state‑agency operations.
• Demonstrated expertise in forecasting, budgeting and financial management.
