GIS Specialist

About the role

The purpose of this role is to support GIS Services by capturing, manipulating, analysing and publishing spatial data through web‑based mapping applications for Transnet Property and its clients.

Key responsibilities

• Perform regular spatial data updates and publish them on the web.
• Maintain an accurate inventory of spatial data owned by Shared Property Services.
• Ensure integrity, cleaning and verification of spatial data.
• Answer queries on land and spatial data and reconcile property and spatial inventories.
• Provide space‑planning support in AutoCAD to Transnet Property and its clients.
• Develop and supply plans/maps for Transnet operating divisions and support businesses.
• Execute spatial data analysis to aid organisational decision‑making.
• Provide technical support for the execution of spatial projects.

Required profile

• Minimum 3‑year degree or equivalent in Cartography, Geography, Surveying or GIS.
• At least 3 years’ experience with GIS and CAD applications, focusing on data capture, manipulation and analysis.
• Registration with the South African Council for Professional and Technical Surveyors (PLATO) is an advantage.
