General Technical Assistant - Electrical Department

About the role

The Group is looking for a hardworking, safety-conscious and dedicated person to join its Electrical department as a General Technical Assistant. The post is permanent, with standard hours of 07h30-17h00 Monday to Thursday and 07h30-16h00 Friday; overtime may be required depending on operational needs.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the team with maintenance and upgrading of existing electrical control and distribution systems
• Make sure all electrical equipment is properly maintained and isolated by a Qualified Artisan before any work begins
• Help carry out repairs and maintenance on electrical equipment
• Install conduit, cable racking and cables according to standard work requirements as instructed
• Identify and select the right hand tools and use basic power tools
• Keep the area tidy and assist the department manager and Qualified Artisans with ad-hoc duties

Required profile

• At least 3 years of relevant working experience
• Grade 12 matric certificate or equivalent
• Good spoken, written and reading English
• Willingness to work overtime and to work in a pressurised environment
• Knowledge of health and safety rules and regulations

Required skills

• Ability to work with minimum supervision, independently and in a team
• Basic computer proficiency
• Sound understanding of tools and technical equipment, good hand-eye coordination
• Time and priority management, attention to detail
