General Manager - Payments & POS Technology

About the role

We are looking for an experienced General Manager to lead the strategic, commercial and operational functions of a specialist payments and POS technology business serving Sub‑Saharan Africa. The role is remote within South Africa and reports directly to the Group Managing Executive / Group COO.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the overall business strategy, driving revenue, profitability and market share across Africa.
• Develop and maintain strategic relationships with banks, fintechs, payment providers, retailers and other partners.
• Lead the POS product roadmap, covering hardware, software, Android terminals and value‑added solutions.
• Manage international suppliers and technology partners, especially in Europe and Asia.
• Oversee procurement, logistics, inventory, repairs, deployment and customer service operations.
• Collaborate with software and technical teams to keep products competitive and commercially viable.
• Control budgets, forecasts, margins and overall financial performance.
• Build, develop and retain a high‑performing specialist team.
• Identify new markets, products, partnerships and commercial opportunities for expansion.
• Ensure strong governance, risk management, operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, Engineering, IT, Electronics or a related field.
• 10+ years’ experience in the payments and/or POS terminal industry.
• 5+ years in senior management or executive leadership roles.
• Proven track record of managing financial performance and delivering commercial growth.
• Strong strategic, operational and commercial leadership capabilities.
• Advantageous: MBA, postgraduate qualification, payments or banking certifications.
