General Manager - Core M&A GSM Platforms

About the role

MTN's Mergers and Acquisitions function is evolving to support the Ambition 2030 strategy, providing strategic investment guidance and insights across multiple jurisdictions. The General Manager of Core M&A GSM Platforms is accountable for M&A strategy, execution and oversight of M&A initiatives in GSM platform businesses, and works closely with the Chief Group M&A and BD Office.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to M&A strategy and focus on identified initiatives and growth themes in GSM platform businesses
• Ensure the M&A lifecycle, frameworks, principles and processes are implemented, and set performance metrics to measure effectiveness
• Sourcing and due diligence of acquisition targets, evaluating strategic fit, financial viability, risks and synergies
• Advise on capital structure with corporate finance, and lead negotiations on complex contracts and agreements
• Lead bid teams on new licence bids, including valuation and shareholder consortium structures
• Manage operational budgets, forecast and report on Core M&A activities, sales performance and market insights to senior management
• Manage a high-performing team, define roles and performance objectives, and foster collaboration and knowledge transfer

Required profile

• Minimum 4-year tertiary degree in Finance, Business or a related field; MBA or equivalent master's degree
• 5+ years as a senior manager in Corporate Finance, Investment Banking, M&A Dealmaking or Transacting, with a proven track record of originating and executing M&A deals
• Experience in a medium to large organisation and in a multinational with emerging markets exposure is advantageous
• Fluent in English; professional certification or membership is advantageous
