General Maintenance Technician – Hotel

About the role

The Cape Town EDITION is seeking a proactive General Maintenance Technician to respond to guest repair requests and ensure the smooth operation of all hotel facilities. Working independently and with minimal supervision, you will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and maintain a safe environment for guests and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Attend to guest repair requests and communicate resolutions promptly.
• Perform preventive maintenance on tools, equipment and building systems.
• Inspect, repair and replace mechanical, electrical, plumbing and pneumatic components.
• Maintain inventory, requisition parts and supplies as needed.
• Use lockout/tagout procedures before any maintenance work.
• Document daily activities and hand over information to subsequent shifts.
• Act as Engineer on Duty when required, conducting rounds and readings.

Required profile

• Ability to work with little supervision and follow safety policies.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with guests and team members.
• Willingness to train and mentor junior engineers.
• Professional appearance and confidentiality regarding company information.

Required skills

• Air‑conditioning and refrigeration systems.
• Electrical wiring, switches, outlets and basic electronics.
• Mechanical and plumbing systems, including PVC/copper pipe soldering.
• Pneumatic/electronic controls and building management systems.
• Carpentry, finish work, painting, drywall and wood‑trim repair.
• Kitchen equipment and vehicle maintenance.
• Lockout/Tagout safety procedures.
• Preventive‑maintenance and energy‑management software.
• Mid‑level troubleshooting of MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) systems.
