General Foreman / Site Manager – Building Construction

About the role

We are seeking an experienced General Foreman / Site Manager to lead on‑site construction activities for commercial, residential, industrial or mixed‑use building projects in Cape Town. The role involves overseeing daily operations, ensuring safety, quality and schedule compliance, and coordinating with project teams, subcontractors and suppliers.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all day‑to‑day site activities from commencement through to practical completion.
• Plan, coordinate and supervise site labour, subcontractors, suppliers and plant.
• Ensure work is executed according to approved drawings, specifications, quality standards and programme requirements.
• Monitor progress, implement corrective actions and maintain project schedules.
• Conduct regular site inspections to verify workmanship and compliance.
• Enforce occupational health and safety regulations and company safety procedures.
• Track productivity, labour allocation, material usage and equipment utilisation.
• Maintain accurate daily site records, progress reports and documentation.
• Attend site meetings, provide updates to stakeholders and coordinate inspections with consultants and authorities.
• Manage defects, snag lists and ensure timely resolution through to completion.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years proven experience in building construction.
• Extensive experience as a General Foreman, Site Manager or Senior Foreman on building projects.
• Based in or willing to relocate to Cape Town.
• Relevant construction qualification or trade certificate (advantageous).
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Thorough understanding of South African building regulations, construction methods and health & safety legislation.

Required skills

• Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
• Strong computer literacy, especially MS Office.
• Experience with construction management software (advantageous).
