Fungi Culture Preparation and Inoculation Operator

About the role

The Fungi Culture Preparation and Inoculation Operator works in BASF's fungi production plant to generate high‑quality, contamination‑free microbial cultures that support agricultural solutions. The role combines laboratory techniques with production‑floor responsibilities to ensure consistent product quality and safety.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare bacterial and fungal cultures according to production schedules while maintaining sterility.
• Clean, wash and sterilize culture vessels and related equipment.
• Inoculate sterile substrate batches with fungal cultures under controlled conditions.
• Perform quality checks on cultures, document results and report any deviations.
• Monitor environmental parameters in process areas to meet microbial standards.
• Maintain housekeeping, cleaning and disinfection schedules.
• Complete batch documentation accurately and submit production data on time.
• Track consumable stock levels and coordinate replenishment.
• Communicate progress and issues to the Team Leader or Production Manager.

Required profile

• National Diploma / NQF6 in Biotechnology, Microbiology or a related field.
• 1–2 years of experience in a production or laboratory environment.
• Strong numerical literacy, attention to detail and ability to work independently or in a team.
• Physically fit to perform operational tasks in a production setting.
