Fractional Financial Controller (Remote)

About the role

Our client, a group of established Australian trade and service businesses, is looking for a Fractional Financial Controller to provide strategic finance leadership across two entities. Working remotely, you will own reporting, forecasting and process improvement, helping modernise financial operations and drive visibility for field crews, project managers and senior leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Lead month‑end and year‑end close, preparing management accounts, KPI dashboards and profit & loss statements.
• Develop and maintain rolling cash‑flow forecasts, monitor working capital and oversee debtor collections.
• Analyse project profitability, job costing and labor utilisation, partnering with project managers on financial insights.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and pricing initiatives, contributing to growth and acquisition strategies.
• Implement and optimise systems such as Xero, Simpro and ServiceM8, documenting SOPs and identifying automation opportunities.
• Ensure compliance with BAS, payroll tax, superannuation and liaise with external accountants.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience as a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or Senior Management Accountant.
• Strong knowledge of Australian accounting standards and tax requirements.
• Hands‑on experience with Xero and a proven track record of financial modelling, reporting and forecasting.
• Ability to translate complex data into clear business recommendations.
